Impact

Handcrafted to perfection, Kongumagal is a labor-intensive brand. A women-led initiative, Kongumagal provides stable employment opportunities for many women in the rural district of Palakkad in Kerala. Kongumagal currently sustains a workforce of over 16 individuals in permanent positions while ensuring a reliable source of income for numerous others engaged in the creation of coconut shell crafts. Through the repurposing of coconut waste, Kongumagal presently safeguards discarded coconut shells from various coconut processing units in Kerala. This waste would otherwise have been destined for landfills or used as basic household fuel. Since its establishment in 2019, Kongumagal has rescued more than 53,000 coconut shells from being discarded as waste.
